Vintage Turkish Ushak rug 310x203 cm
$1 400
Composition: sheep wool and cotton
Size: 310x203 cm / 10,1x6,7 ft
This carpet is an incredible Ushak from the city of the same name in Western Anatolia. The traditions of carpet weaving in this region of Turkey go back to the ancient settlements of the Seljuks, and the current Ushak carpets appeared at the beginning of the XV century.
Ushak's rugs are distinguished by a muted palette in terracotta, soft apricot, and golden-saffron tones with the addition of blue, green, and gray. The rudeness and primitiveness of the Gerdes knot weaving technique are more than compensated for by particularly soft and silky wool.
The approximate age of the carpet is 50-60 years. It has undergone professional cleaning and local restoration.
